"To rebuild the Philippine coffee ecosystem by restoring and expanding our native Liberica (Barako) heritage."

The Liberica Initiative is a collaborative movement led by VerraCoffee in partnership with Coffee Heritage Project, Imagine Coffee Group, Farm to Cup Philippines, and Coffee Lovers Philippines.
Our vision is simple but ambitious: to help rebuild the Philippine coffee industry through the revival and expansion of Liberica (Barako) coffee.
Despite being one of the world's coffee-producing nations, the Philippines continues to import the majority of the coffee it consumes. We believe this can change. Through long-term collaboration among farmers, private companies, government agencies, researchers, and coffee communities, we envision a future where Philippine-grown coffee once again plays a significant role in meeting local demand while earning recognition in global specialty coffee markets.
Our long-term goal is to significantly reduce the country's dependence on imported coffee over the next two decades by increasing local production, improving farm productivity, and encouraging the cultivation of high-value Philippine coffee varieties—particularly Liberica. We also envision Philippine Liberica becoming one of the country's flagship agricultural exports, showcasing its unique heritage, exceptional quality, and distinct flavor profile to the world.
The Liberica Initiative actively partners with farmers, cooperatives, landowners, local government units, and organizations interested in establishing or expanding Liberica coffee farms. Beyond seedling distribution, the initiative seeks to provide access to knowledge, technical support, market linkages, and a growing network committed to building a stronger and more sustainable Philippine coffee industry.
Whether you are a farmer looking to diversify your land, an organization interested in supporting rural livelihoods, or a coffee enthusiast who believes in Philippine coffee, we invite you to become part of this movement.
Together, we can cultivate more than coffee—we can help build a more resilient agricultural sector, strengthen farming communities, preserve our coffee heritage, and position Philippine Liberica on the global stage.
